Walking cricket returns after bumper 2025

Walking cricket returns after bumper 2025

Emma Cooling13 Mar - 12:01

New players welcome!

After the overwhelming success of Walking Cricket last year – we are excited to announce that sessions will recommence on Thursday April 16 with spaces available for new players!
Last year we joined a handful of clubs across Devon to offer this low-impact version of traditional cricket designed to accommodate players of all ages and abilities, especially older adults or those with reduced mobility.
Thanks to the commitment of volunteers Roy, Norm and others the weekly sessions will be back at the earlier time of 10am until 12 noon every Thursday offering a relaxed way back into cricket or a sociable introduction to it, for men and women aged over 50!
Walking cricket is a format of the game in which running is not required - players walk to score runs and move around and everybody gets the opportunity to bat, bowl and field in all cricket positions.
The sessions will cost £5 (£4 for members) on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. As other clubs become in involved in walking cricket there will be the option for matches against other clubs for those wishing to play competitively.
Roy Norton, one of our BSCC walking cricket co-ordinators, said: “Last year, in our first season, it was wonderful to see people who had not played for decades, or at all in the past, embrace walking cricket. There was much fun and support for one another as we reminded our bodies how to play cricket. Each week we practiced batting and bowling with the help of coaches and rounded things off with a match where everybody was fully involved. We are very much looking forward to the new season, where we can pick up friendships made last year and welcome new players.”
To register for the first session (free to newcomers!) or for more information contact Roy on 07944492375 roynortonbscc@gmail.com.
