U15s top the league!

U15s top the league!

Emma Cooling10 Jun - 20:33

Another busy week for BSCC Juniors

BSCC u15 top their Blast group after putting Sidmouth to the sword last, writes coach Bill Roper. It’s alway lovely to play at Fortfield but this was particularly lovely evening. A short staffed BSCC won the toss and opted to bat. A strong top order got on with the job building a nice total. Theo James retired on 50 off just 31 balls. Henry was dismissed by a quality pea roller and Arthur Whitby retires for a second consecutive game and Alex Roper chipped in with useful 18 to take the total to 173 for 1.
In reply Sidmouth kept pace with the required rate until a clutch of wickets fell including their captain Leo Raichura who was working hard to get them into the game. Some useful contributions from Charlie Cooling (3-17-1) and debutant Reuben Bond (3-13-2). Ozzie Simms finished with figures of 3.3-6-4) to wrap things up.
Player of the match: Theo James - quality 50 and tight keeping
Moment of the game: Charlie Cooling’s wicket
Really well played to all. Top of the league and next match is away at Exmouth next week where hopefully we can have a strong turnout.

The U12s local derby against Exmouth didn't quite go our way as we went down to a narrow 9 run defeat, reports coach Tom Wilkinson.
‘Like last time out, our bowling was impressive in reducing Exmouth to 106. Good opening spells from Reuben and Isaac, backed up by Rory, Freddie and Reece gave us a fighting chance when chasing. Reece with 3 wickets and Samuel with 2. Henry's keeping gets better each week as well ?
Against some pacy and accurate bowling, we could never quite get on top of the run chase and lost wickets at regular intervals. Samuel batted to a 30 not out and with Lucy, who batted really well, put on the highest partnership of 39’

BSCC U11s by Coach Andrew Nelligan.
On Wednesday June 4 the u11s played Clyst St George A-team at the Holt.
We lost by 47 runs, but it was another performance to take a lot of positives and encouragement from.
Good bowling and fielding prevented it from being more.
Notable mentions to Sam (2), Ollie, Clay, Sean, Jacob, Edward (2) and Rory for picking up wickets and particular mention to Samuel for getting a run out and a solid catch.
A bit to work on with the batting; the loss of too many wickets was ultimately the difference between winning and losing. But each match is showing improvement.

BSCC U14s
On Wednesday evening (June 4) away at Cullompton the U14s overcame all obstacles (traffic, roadworks, the opposition) to deliver a 7-run win against a strong Cullompton side, writes coach Chris Campbell....“Treating” spectators to a nervy, close match, which has become their stock in trade, they opted to bat first on a sticky wicket. There were mixed fortunes for the batters as many perished to aerial shots. However, Jonah (40) was in imperious form as his new (intact) bat dispatched the bowlers to the boundary with seeming ease. He was well supported by Finley who, despite the hostile bowling, weathered the barrage and made a smart 17 (he may have bruises in the morning...). The lower order also acquitted themselves well with Rudi, Miller and Jacob all proving their “stickability” as Budleigh tried to see out the full 20. In the end they reached 116 all out off 15.3 overs. The feeling was they had left some runs out on the field and would have to bowl meanly to defend the total.
What followed was a really impressive team effort which saw the bowlers produce accuracy and threat and fielders backing them all the way. Smart catches and athletic stops were in evidence all over the field and the wickets came when needed to slow Cullompton’s progress. A sharp run out was followed by 2 wickets for opening bowler Theo C, and 1 each for Bobby, Ted and Billy. Ultimately, with Jacob and Josh keeping it tight in the middle overs, it was the control Budleigh showed in not leaking unnecessary runs that made the difference. The fielding was exceptional, with singles cut off, boundaries saved in every over …and…wait for it… evidence of actual backing up! All the effort was worth it as Cullompton reached 109 for 6 off their 20 overs. Moments of the match: Jonah taking a head high catch on the boundary from a rocket of a strike from Cullompton’s finest batter and Ted’s stone-cold (and casual) caught and bowled. Final words to coach John Neill: “The team were unbelievable tonight. They really have turned a corner on fielding in the last two weeks. Great energy, accuracy and backing each other positively. Really nice to see!”
