BSCC U17s beat Culmstock U17 by 6 wickets. Another sweltering evening saw this top of the table clash take place at the idyllic Culmstock cricket ground. Winning the toss Culmstock opted to bat making the youthful Budleigh team sweat it out in the field. A very tight start from the opening bowlers saw Culmstock restricted to a handful of runs off the first six overs however the small boundaries started to come to play as their middle order opened up. Some indifferent fielding from the Otters saw the total reach and unlikely 130 for the loss of six wickets. Pick of the bowlers for economy were Alex Roper (4–14-1-1) and George Mills (4-23-0-2).
In reply, the Budleigh openers went to town and made full use of the short boundaries. Ollie Roper and Marcus Robinson plundered 92 runs between them off just 10 overs - Marcus retiring on 50 yet again, Roper 42 off 29 balls. The middle order saw off the remaining runs, reaching their target in just 15 overs. This leaves the U17s unbeaten for the season and top of the league. They will go into a play-off against the second place team of the East 1 division. Really well done to the group - securing that win was key - super team effort.
On Wednesday July 31 there was another brave and valiant effort from the U10s against a very strong Exmouth team.
This young side are progressing really well with every match and learning all the different skills and knowledge needed in cricket. Special mentions to Freddie for some good batting and bowling and Isla and Lucy (Dixon, on loan from the u11s) who both batted with real bravery against their best bowlers and both of whom took blows; Lucy, one that rose unexpectedly and hit her shoulder.
That was the last match of the season so well done to every girl and boy who has played a part. With more training we will be stronger next year!
