The summer term will see hundreds of school children benefitting from the facilities here at The Holt and the fun has already started – 10 schools have joined us in the last week!
On Tuesday April 29 around 80 pupils from the Link Academy joined us for a day of cricket skills under the expert leadership of Devon Cricket Foundation coach Chris Brown.
Children from Otterton C of E primary, Drakes East Budleigh, Littleham and Woodbury Salterton C of E enjoyed brilliant sunshine for the all-day event.
Anne Pelosi, Academy Head at Otterton Church of England Primary School said: “The day was well organised and set on the wonderful new cricket ground at The Holt, it was hard not to soak up the beautiful surroundings during the day. The children took part in a carousel of Cricket activities which focused on developing skills in soft ball cricket, throwing, catching, striking and fielding. The children showed determination and teamwork. It was especially fun having the opportunity to work with key stage children from the other local schools. Thank you for hosting, we look forward to the next event at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club!”
Chris from Devon Cricket said: “What a day! Over 70 children from several schools were able to come and make the most of the Holt. The sun was shining and children got to take part in various cricketing activities, plenty of smiles from staff and children alike made for a brilliant day of cricket.”
On the following Tuesday (May 6) we hosted the East Devon School Sports partnership Under 13 Softball cricket tournament, hosting teams from Exmouth Community College, Sidmouth College, King’s School Ottery St Mary, Colyton Grammar, Cullompton, and Uffculme.
Exmouth and Colyton triumphed and will progress to the Devon finals.
East Devon School Games organiser Kevin Moran said: “A huge thankyou to all at BSCC for the fantastic hospitality at this wonderful venue and a great opportunity for many to bridge the gap between starting cricket for the first time before venturing onto hardball cricket.”
And so begins a packed summer term of school events here at BSCC!
