Ottermouth has been the home of Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club since 1935. With the club relocation to the new ground a competition was launched late 2022 to find a name for the new home of the Otters.
Members (young and old alike) were invited to submit their suggestions for the new ground name.
With 10s of suggestions being submitted there was a strong response around the location now being higher up with views of the Otter valley - however there was an even greater leaning towards a name that represented our club emblem - that of an Otter.
It was a close run thing but in the end The Holt was the majority suggestion - with the meaning simply being: NOUN - the burrowed lair of an animal, esp an otter.
In addition there will be much more emphasis on the clubs history with the incorporation of our founding year - 1858 - in which Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club played it's first ever match against Ottery St Mary - and Won!
We look forward to welcoming everyone to The Holt for the upcoming 2023 season!
