International series comes to BSCC

Club trail blazes new disability format

We are excited to announce that BSCC is bringing international disability cricket to Budleigh as part of a trailblazing new format for the sport.
In June the club will host the warm up matches for a pioneering new international disability series between England Men and India Men.
A new era beckons for disability cricket with the first mixed-disability series between two countries, when India Men come to England to compete in an IT20 series across June and July - and both teams will play here at The Holt in their pre-match preparations!
The groundbreaking new format – pioneered by the UK’s Disability Premier League – comes as BSCC furthers its own commitment to making the game acessible to all and will enable the club to inspire players of all abilities as mixed impairment international players play together for the first time.
Disability cricket at international level has traditionally been played in separate impairment disciplines, but this series will trial the mixed-disability model at the highest level with players from the Learning Disability, Physical Disability and Deaf squads forming each team’s XI.
BSCC will host the India team from Monday June 16 to Friday June 20th and both England Lions and the England Senior squad will visit The Holt for warm-up matches and training. The series will kick-off on Saturday June 21st when India plays the England Men’s Mixed Disability team at Taunton and the following week the teams will compete at Lords as part of the new seven-match IT20 series.
ECB Head of Disability cricket Ian Martin said: “We are really excited to visit BSCC and to use the venue as part of preparations for the Vitality Mixed Disability Series between England and India starting at Taunton on 21st June. We are aware of the recent investment and improvement in the facilities at the venue and both teams will be able to benefit from these whilst preparing to do battle in the first series of it’s type. I hope that we can use the opportunity to promote disability inclusion in sport across the local community and build on the amazing disability provision already available at the club. It will be great to see disabled youngsters mixing with players from both England and India who have shown that disability is no barrier to success in cricket.”
Should the trial be successful, countries would be able to focus their resources on two formats – mixed-Disability and Blind Cricket – encouraging greater participation and higher standards.
Our chairman Joel Murphy said: “BSCC are thrilled to have been chosen by England and Wales Cricket to host a week long training camp for both the India and England mixed Disability teams as they prepare for their forthcoming seven match T20 series. Bringing international standard cricket to The Holt is a fantastic and exciting new dimension to all that we already provide to the wider cricketing community. Everyone is invited to come along along to watch and be a part of this opportunity to see some terrific players as they warm up for their tournament!”
The club will be inviting schools, disability providers and players to be part of the week as we showcase mixed-disability cricket at the highest level and will release match timings closer to the events – watch this space!
