We’re delighted to announce that BSCC volunteers have once again received recognition at county level for their fantastic contributions to club life.
As recently announced on our social media platforms, our Walking Cricket Committee has won the Raising the Game category at the Devon Cricket Foundation Cricket Collective Awards, while our wonderful Club Treasurer, All Stars Activator and player Jacqueline House was named runner-up in the Newcomer of the Year category.
These awards are a fantastic recognition of the commitment, enthusiasm and hard work that our volunteers put into making BSCC such a welcoming and thriving club. Everyone at BSCC is incredibly proud of them and grateful for everything they do.
Club Chairman James England said:
“It’s great that Jac has received recognition for her hard work as an All Stars Activator. She does a fantastic job organising and motivating the All Stars, as well as being a very efficient treasurer. It’s thoroughly deserved.”
Mark Waistell, a member of the Walking Cricket Committee, said of their award: “This was a totally unexpected but greatly appreciated award. When we look back a couple of years to the start of Walking Cricket at Budleigh, we were all pretty hopeless, but can now all bat, bowl and field quite competently!
“The Festival of Walking Cricket earlier in the season was a wonderful celebration, and we’ve now been asked to play Bovey Tracey next week. We’re also considering taking part in the national competition at Worcestershire next season.
“The main thing, however, is that Walking Cricket remains inclusive, enjoyable and open to all, whether you used to play at a reasonable level or have never picked up a bat or ball.
“The four members of the committee work hard, but it has needed four of us to replace the founder and instigator of Walking Cricket at Budleigh, Roy Norton, to whom we owe a great debt of gratitude.
“Finally, the club at Budleigh has encouraged us fantastically and has never offered anything but full and enthusiastic support.”
A huge congratulations to Jac and the Walking Cricket Committee. These awards are richly deserved and are a wonderful reflection of the people who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to make BSCC such a special club.
