Bumper crowds for winning weekend!

Holt heaving as senior teams triumph and 3rds top the league

The Holt drew its biggest crowds yet at a bumper weekend of cricket in which the 3rd XI secured their place as league champions and all 3 senior teams won their matches!
A fitting end to a fantastic season saw the 1st XI beat Barton and the 2nd XI defeat Sidmouth away as the 3rds, in their bid to secure the two points needed to top the table, faced a tough Exmouth side intent on promotion.
Captain James England said: “We controlled our line and length very well throughout the first innings leading exmouth to collapse 160-5 to 182 AO pick of the bowlers was Alex James 3-21 off of 7, with the batting we started off nice and steady with young Otto playing very strongly off his pads and Neil 'norm' Murrin enjoying the pace that Exmouth were bowling with. However, a mini top order collapse bought Nick Bolt and Bill Roper to the crease who steadied the ship taking us from 47-3 to 117-4, some power hitting after the ship was steadied swung the game back in budleighs favour to leave Alex 'boris' Roper to finish the game off with a divine sweep for 4.”
On Sunday the Community league finals day saw the climax of a summer of friendly rivalry between local ‘pub league’ teams with a closely fought final between the Kings Arms and The Colts. Title holders Colts came out top once again to win the shield infront of an enthusiastic crowd!
The winning weekend continued with our u15s triumphing over Exeter CC on Sunday afternoon to place them third in the table ahead of a crunch match against Bovey Tracey tomorrow (Thursday). Coach Bill Roper said of the team’s performance: “This is an amazing effort given that more than half the team are under 14s and we have also included several under 13s in some of our matches. Next year we will be even stronger!”
