BSCC women's festival a hit!

U15 girls chance to shine!

In a fantastic celebration of girls and women’s cricket BSCC hosted a softball festival in the sunshine on Sunday!
As well as a chance to welcome women’s teams from other clubs, the festival was also an opportunity for the club’s newly formed U15 Girls softball side to form a team and take part demonstrating “spirit, determination and a huge amount of ability”.
The day was organised by Liz Burgess, manager of BSCC’s thriving women’s sector.
BSCC player Zoe Dixon said: “Sunday saw Budleigh host a fun and friendly ladies softball festival with teams from Hatherleigh, Whimple and Budleigh's newly formed U15 girls.
“It was great to see so many women of all different levels enjoying the sport together in the sunshine and breeze at the Holt. Big thanks must go to Liz for all the behind the scenes and on the day organisation, to the umpires and scorers and the amazing food contributors. The warm sausage rolls and Guinness chocolate cake were memorable!
Special mention must go to our amazing U15 year olds, most of whom were playing their first ever game, but played with total enthusiasm, great team spirit and a LOT of talent!”
Andrew Chatterton, coach for the U15 side, said: “For a team that has only been playing cricket for just six weeks it was absolutely amazing to see them all play. Even against a very tough start against a surprisingly strong Whimple team the girls played with spirit, determination and a huge amount of ability. In the games against Hatherleigh (x2) and Budleigh Women we were outstanding. The fielding was amazing, bowling great (lots of comments about how technically good the bowling was) and batting superb!”
Fellow coach Tom Sowman said: “The girls should all be very proud and take confidence with how they acquitted themselves in their first games. They made it look easy!”
U15 team manager Alice Sowman echoed this praise for the girls: “The girls played with great team spirit, cheering each other on and starting to give encouragement in the field. Thanks to Tom and Chats as well for umpiring all day.”
