Relocating Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club 1 of 6

1. Introduction

In 2023, Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club (BSCC) will start life at a new home. This new home is less than a mile upstream from our current ground, Ottermouth, and maintains views over the River Otter and the South Coast.

The new ground is a significant improvement in facility. We will now have two pitches and a state of the art clubhouse capable of supporting minor county cricket, league & youth cricket, women cricket and disability cricket. With two pitches and four changing rooms, we are planning for simultaneous matches across the weekend: First, seconds and a new thirds team on Saturdays. Women's hardball and softball league cricket, youth games and community league games across Sunday.

In addition, the clubhouse has been designed such that the downstairs cricket facilities (storage, changing rooms, offices) can be partitioned from the upstairs event and entertaining space so that we can enable community access beyond cricket.

The two pitches have been laid and work on the clubhouse should begin in July 2022 with a target completion of August 2023. The club has secured funding of £1.2 million for the clubhouse development and is seeking to raise up to £300k more to ensure the following:

  • The facilities are entirely accessible
  • Artificial nets
  • An artificial wicket on the second pitch
  • Fencing and nets where necessary around the ground to protect houses and traffic
  • Ensure a sustainable environment eg. rainwater reservoirs, renewable energy sources
  • New ground keeping equipment
  • Modern training facilities and equipment
  • Cooking facilities

The new ground is part of a ten year plan to expand access to cricket, raise the quality of cricket played in the area, and a broader set of goals that use cricket to improve peoples lives through better health outcomes and the development of ambition, identity and leadership.

We believe the facility detailed here will deliver one of the most thrilling cricket facilities in the United Kingdom and become a destination for teams across the country.
